Vacancy & Category Analysis (TET as Qualifying Exam)

Unlike a direct recruitment drive, HP TET does not announce fixed category-wise vacancies. Instead, it is a mandatory eligibility test for teachers in Himachal Pradesh government schools. Candidates clearing TET receive a certificate valid for lifetime without any limit on attempts. The real benefit: after qualifying, you become eligible to apply for teacher vacancies (TGT/JBT etc.) that are released separately by the HP Education Department.

Insight: Since TET is a qualifying exam, the competition lies in scoring above the cutoff (60% UR / 55% reserved). While no specific seat matrix exists, about 30-40% of applicants typically qualify. Candidates from SC, ST, OBC & PHH categories of Himachal Pradesh get 5% relaxation both in eligibility marks (e.g., 45% instead of 50% in graduation) and in passing marks (55% vs 60%). PwD candidates with 40%+ disability can avail scribe and 50 minutes extra time.

Category-wise vacancy breakdown not applicable as TET is not a recruitment. Monitor official teacher vacancy notifications after qualifying.

Salary and In-Hand Calculation (After Appointment)

Official pay scale not confirmed in HP TET notification. The TET exam only certifies eligibility. Typical salary for a government teacher in HP after appointment (as per 7th Pay Commission) is estimated below for reference. Verify final pay from recruiting authority.
Post Type Pay Level (7th CPC) Gross Approx (Pre-Deductions)
TGT (Arts/Medical/Non-Medical) Level 6 (₹35,400 – 1,12,400) ₹52,000 – ₹58,000
JBT (Primary Teacher) Level 5 (₹29,200 – 92,300) ₹42,000 – ₹48,000

In-hand after NPS (10% of basic), CGHS, and state deductions: approx ₹45,000 – ₹55,000 for TGT and ₹35,000 – ₹42,000 for JBT. Additional benefits include DA (latest HP DA rates), HRA (8-24% depending on city class), travel allowance, and lifetime TET certificate.
